Rhinophyma is a condition that creates a red, bulbous, and bumpy nose. Rhinophyma is caused by overactive oil producing glands or sebaceous glands. Rhinophyma has been associated with alcoholism and is sometimes referred to as an alcoholic’s nose. However, the reason the oil glands create Rhinophyma is unknown.
In most cases, Dr. Chernoff uses a surgical CO2 Laser to remove the overgrowth of oil glands, which removes the Rhinophyma. The results are immediate and permanent. Patients who have been treated for Rhinophyma are extremely happy with their results.
Rhinophyma can cause depression for some patients. In certain cases, if Rhinophyma is left untreated, the growth can become disfiguring.
In addition to removing the Rhinophyma, Dr. Chernoff used a single treatment of CO2 laser followed by multi-modality laser treatment in the office to improve this patient’s broken facial capillaries.
During your consultation, Dr. Chernoff will provide all options for Rhinophyma treatment. Dr. Chernoff explains the procedures, recovery, and expected results. Our staff will help you prepare for treatment.
Prior to any treatment or procedure, Dr. Chernoff or one of our trained and certified Health Care Providers determine if you are a candidate, review the risk and benefits, and provide all possible treatment alternatives.
