What is Dr. Chernoff’s Combination Deep Plane Smas Facelift?
The first facelift was reportedly performed by a Germany surgeon in 1901. Since that time there have been many surgical improvements as the earliest facelifts in the US were single layer procedures that only tightened the skin.
Today, Dr. Chernoff, and other expert Facial Plastic Surgeons, perform facelifts that include the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS). The SMAS is an area of musculature of the face comprised of dense connective tissue layer in the cheek lying between the subcutaneous fat above and the muscles that control facial expression below.
Dr. Chernoff’s uses a facelift surgical technique called a Deep Plane SMAS Facelift for patients who have significant facial aging. This surgical approach provides:

How is a Deep Plane Facelift Performed?
Dr. Chernoff’s Deep Plane facelift is performed with small incisions being carefully made around the earlobe and mid-ear. Dr. Chernoff is meticulous about placing the incision so that the resulting scar is small and virtually invisible. Women can wear their hair up and off their face and ears with no one able to tell that they’ve had surgery. Even men are also surprised of how unnoticeable the incisions are after they heal.*
Once the incision is made, Dr. Chernoff gently lifts and tightens the underlying connective tissue and facial musculature before removing excess skin. It is important to note that Dr. Chernoff uses a special suturing technique when closing the incision to reduce tension and minimize visible scarring.*
For some patients, Dr. Chernoff may perform ultrasonic-assisted fat removal alone the jaw line to reduce the jowl area to achieve optimal aesthetic jaw contouring results of his facelift. Dr. Chernoff may also use a new treatment called FaceTite to provide additional skin tightening while performing a facelift surgery. This treatment helps improve skin elasticity for patients with extensive hanging and sagging skin. After Your Facelift Surgery
